CORUNA PROVINCE
The province of La Coruña has 1,126,055 inhabitants (INE July 1, 2015), the most populated of Galicia. 36.5% of these live in one of the three largest municipalities in the province (La Coruña, Santiago and Ferrol). Also, Naron and Oleiros are among the ten most populated municipalities of Galicia. The city of La Coruña is the second in population of Galicia, but it is the most densely populated urban area community with hab./km2 6471 (INE 2014). The province of La Coruña is the 41st of Spain where there is a higher percentage of people concentrated in its capital (21.45%, against 31.96% of all Spain).
La Coruna (in Galician and officially, A Coruna) is a city and municipality of Spain. It belongs to the autonomous community of Galicia and is the capital of the province.
Important historic port, is situated on the northwest coast of the Iberian Peninsula in the Rias Altas. The center of the city lies on a peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus, which has two distinct waterfronts: the port (to the estuary of Corunna) and other open sea, toward Orzán Cove, and on which the main urban beaches (Riazor and Orzan) extend.
Its secondary sector is mainly concentrated in the port of La Coruna and Repsol oil refinery in La Coruna. Its climate is oceanic in its southern variety, with mild temperatures all year round.
It is home to the High Court of Galicia, of the Government Delegation in the Community and headquarters of the Royal Academy of Galicia since its founding. It was also the capital of Spanish Military Region VIII, territorial structure of the Spanish army now defunct, although the city is located the headquarters of the Logistics Task Force, as well as a Subdelegación of Defense.
The municipality limits the north with the Atlantic Ocean, east to the estuary of Corunna and the municipality of Oleiros, south with the municipality of Culleredo and to the west with that of Arteijo.
